Illustrator - Basic Flats

Learn to draw basic flats

Level: Beginner to intermediate

In this six hour block of instruction we will start by reviewing Illustrator’s user interface. Simply put, we will go over all of the various tools, toolbars and window palettes that make up the program. By the end of the day we will be designing our own flats utilizing a croquis as a template.
This is a skill that is required by most companies, and is a consistent part of design room work-flow.

Illustrator - Intermediate Flats

Build upon the skills we learned in the basic flats class

Level: Beginner to intermediate

This six hour block of instruction starts right where the basic class stopped. We will expand upon the skills we acquired in the previous course. We will also integrate Microsoft Excel by moving the technical drawings we create in Illustrator into an Excel line sheet.
We will also put the assets we created in the basic class to further use in modifying the basic blouse flat.

Illustrator - Basic Textiles

Create repeating prints, manage color and more

Level: Beginner to intermediate

This six hour block of instruction focuses on the creation of repeating patterns and various techniques for accomplishing this. We will be tracing an existing pattern and then re-color it in multiple color-ways.
We will also be going over color management. This means maintaining the integrity of our colors from the monitor to the actual prints.

Advanced shape drawing techniques

Level: Beginner to intermediate

This six hour block of instruction will explore advanced shape drawing techniques that we might use to create fashion accessory items such as:

  • Zipper tabs
  • 3D Rings and Beads
  • Custom Perfume Bottles
  • Custom Handbags

Illustrator - Brush Workshop

Create various stich brushes, zippers, ruffles and more

Level: Intermediate to advanced

In this six hour block of instruction we will start by creating simple stitch brushes. From there we will move on to more complex brushes such as zippers, ruffles and lace.

This class takes all the guess work out of using the brush palette, controlling how your brush aligns to the path, colorization methods, and even gradient brushes!

Microsoft Excel - Tech Packs

Create a tech pack from scratch using Microsoft Excel

Level: Intermediate to advanced

In this five hour workshop we will build a tech pack from an empty Excel spread sheet. We will insert images for branding and garment construction. We will learn to populate the entire measurements page with one easy formula!

Photoshop - Basic Textiles

Create seamless repeats in multiple color ways

Level: Beginner to intermediate

This six hour block of instruction covers everything from the basic interface and toolset to the creation of prints, managing color, re-coloring existing patterns, Pantone colors and saving to the proper format for print.

Photoshop - Fashion Illustration

Render a basic technical flat into a photo realistic image

Level: Beginner to intermediate

In this six hour workshop we will be taking a ‘layer managed flat’ that has been exported from Illustrator and using various techniques, we will render and composite the image into a photo realistic visualization that can be used by merchandisers to generate interest in your line before you spend a penny on creating samples! Photoshop - Line Sheets

Separate and clean up garment photos - and then composite into a linesheet

Level: Beginner to advanced

This six hour course shows us how to accurately separate an image from the background and then take the resulting shots and compose them into a line sheet. We will then add text, logo elements and fabric swatches in different color ways to complete the line sheet.
